A toast for better health

Health as a topic was an evergreen favourite both among the readers and us writers – the former looked for ways to improve their physical fitness and elevate their lifestyle; we either went on spiralling guilt trips about our disorderly habits or laughed at the irony of writing an article on staying fit while munching on chips.

I wrote about the long-term consequences of using beauty or cosmetic products that contained harmful ingredients that consumers weren’t aware of (https://www.deccanherald.com/metrolife/metrolife-on-the-move/rubbing-plastic-on-your-skin-say-no-747773.html) and the do’s and don’ts to be followed while opting for surgical enhancements or medical beauty treatments (https://www.deccanherald.com/metrolife/metrolife-your-bond-with-bengaluru/caution-advised-in-beauty-treatments-762057.html). I also wrote a piece on how periods are not necessary for a woman and how some are choosing to put a stop to the biological function without harmful side effects (https://www.deccanherald.com/metrolife/metrolife-your-bond-with-bengaluru/some-put-full-stop-to-periods-749420.html). It was intensely personal as well and a work which is very close to my heart.

I also explored what constituted an unhealthy lifestyle and why techies in the city were especially prone to such habits (https://www.deccanherald.com/metrolife/unhealthy-techie-lifestyle-716131.html). Along similar lines was an article on the less-than-ideal sleeping patterns of Bengalureans (https://www.deccanherald.com/metrolife/metrolife-cityscape/why-does-city-sleep-so-little-813100.html) and how one can stick to their exercise routine from the comfort of their home (https://www.deccanherald.com/metrolife/metrolife-your-bond-with-bengaluru/you-can-work-out-from-home-815812.html). As the temperature rose with the advent of summer, I wondered whether there was a relationship between anger levels of an individual and the thermostat (https://www.deccanherald.com/metrolife/metrolife-your-bond-with-bengaluru/heat-makes-you-cranky-it-s-true-727993.html). Somewhere near National No Tobacco Day, we did a reality check about whether the ‘Quit Smoking’ helpline is an effective mechanism to check the addiction (https://www.deccanherald.com/metrolife/helpline-smokers-busy-does-713186.html). PS- It works!

I also wrote an explainer piece on the hugely popular practice of intermittent fasting (https://www.deccanherald.com/metrolife/metrolife-on-the-move/a-guide-to-intermittent-fasting-812881.html) and looked at whether it was safe for moms-to be to engage in a physically demanding hobby like dance (https://www.deccanherald.com/metrolife/metrolife-your-bond-with-bengaluru/okay-for-pregnant-women-to-dance-784974.html).
